Postdoctoral Researcher

Szymon obtained his MSc degree in 2016 nad PhD degree in 2022 at the Faculty of Chemistry of the Jagiellonian University, both in Raman Imaging Group under the supervision of prof. Małgorzata Barańska. During these years, in association with Jagiellonian Centre for Experimental Therapeutics, he was working on various studies performed on both cell lines and primary cells with the use of Raman spectroscopy. The title of his PhD was "Raman imaging analysis of primary endothelial cells in a mouse model of heart failure". Currently, Szymon is a part of the Team-Net project and supports the group in teaching efforts.

Ada is a Ph.D. Student in the Team-Net Project. Ada is pursuing her doctoral dissertation based on the work conducted in the Project. Her research focuses on spectroscopic characterization of leukemic in vitro models, as well as studying cell-drug interactions. Ada also explores the potential of Raman reporters in leukemia diagnosis with the use of Raman imaging (Supervisor: prof. dr hab. Małgorzata Barańska, Co-Supervisor: dr Katarzyna Majzner).

Patrycja is a Ph.D. Student in the Team-Net Project. Patrycja is pursuing her dissertation by conducting research as part of the project. In her work, she focuses on identifying specific spectral markers that enable differentiation of cancer cells isolated from patients from normal cells, as well as identification of particular subtypes of leukemia (Supervisor: prof. dr hab. Małgorzata Barańska, Co-Supervisor: dr Katarzyna Majzner). As part of the project, she complimented a master's thesis entitled "Application of Raman spectroscopy to analyze the biochemical profile of selected leukemic cells" (Supervisor: dr hab. Katarzyna M. Marzec).

Patrycja received a master's degree in chemistry with honors in 2022 from the Faculty of Chemistry of Jagiellonian University. During her studies, she realized courses as part of the Photochemistry and Biospectroscopy specialization panel. She worked under the supervision of Prof. Malgorzata Baranska. Her master's thesis concerned the characterization and differentiation of DLBCL lymphoma cells using Raman imaging in combination with chemometric methods. During her doctoral studies, Patrycja will focus on the applications of Raman spectroscopy in the study of biological samples.

Jagoda received her Master’s degree in 2020 at the Faculty of Chemistry, Jagiellonian University. In her work she focused on the characteristics of drug-induced phospholipidosis in vascular endothelial cells by means of Raman and fluorescence imaging. During doctoral studies, Jagoda will continue her work and focus on spectroscopic studies of cell-drug interactions in vascular endothelium as a model system.

Ania graduated from the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Wrocław in 2018. As part of the project, Anna completed a master's thesis entitled "Characterization of leukocyte phenotypic variation by Raman spectroscopy" (Supervisor: dr hab. Katarzyna M. Marzec). Curiosity about spectroscopic techniques prompted her to undertake research in the Raman Imaging Group at the Faculty of Chemistry of the Jagiellonian University, which resulted in the defense of her master's thesis in 2020. She focused on the subject of the phenotype variability characteristics of immune system cells (leukocytes) using Raman spectroscopy and chemometric techniques. Ania during her doctoral studies at the Jagiellonian Centre for Experimental Therapeutics (JCET) will focus on Raman subcellular imaging of endothelial dysfunction, as well as the use of Raman reporters to detect various specific cellular organelles.

zdjęcie wizerunku KamilliZainteresowania naukowe Kamilli rozpoczęły się modelowaniem właściwości absorpcyjnych kryształów molekularnych w Zakładzie Chemii Teoretycznej. Badania na pograniczu „teorii i doświadczenia” w spektroskopii oscylacyjnej kontynuuje od studiów doktoranckich, ze szczególnym zwróceniem uwagi na związki koordynacyjne bioligandów. Tytuł doktora chemii obroniła w 2003 roku pracą „Zastosowanie metod spektroskopii molekularnej do wyznaczania struktur oksymów i ich związków kompleksowych z jonami Ni(II) i Cu(II)”. Prowadzone obecnie projekty badawcze dotyczą oddziaływania molekuł o znaczeniu bio/medycznym z powierzchnią Ag i Au (SERS) oraz mapowania ramanowskiego i obrazowania IR materiału biologicznego i malarstwa ściennego.

zdjęcie wizerunku KasiKatarzyna M. Marzec uzyskała tytuł licencjacki (2004), magisterski (2006) oraz doktora chemii (z wyróżnieniem, 2010) na Wydziale Chemii UJ. W czasie studiów doktoranckich podjęła współpracę z Uniwersytetem w Coimbrze w Portugalii, gdzie zajmowała się spektroskopią absorpcyjną w podczerwieni w niskotemperaturowych matrycach gazów szlachetnych. Po obronie pracy doktorskiej dołączyła do Jagiellońskiego Centrum Rozwoju Leków (JCET), jako adiunkt. W 2013 otrzymała stypendium Uniwersytetów Australijskich Go8 umożliwiający prowadzenie badań na Uniwersytecie Monash, Australia oraz stypendium Kościuszki na rok 2014 (University of Illinois, USA). W swoich badaniach stosuje techniki spektroskopii oscylacyjnej do analizy tkanek, komórek oraz bioaktywnych związków.

Part of her master's thesis entitled "Tracking lipid metabolism in cells using Raman reporters and spectroscopic imaging" is conducted as a part of the Team-Net Project (Supervisor:dr Anna Nowakowska, Advisor: Patrycja Dawiec).

Magdalena was a Bachelor's Student at the Medical Chemistry (the Faculty of Chemistry, JU). As a part of the Team-Net Project, she was working on her bachelor's thesis entitled "The use of Raman spectroscopy in the study of biochemical changes of polarized macrophages" (Supervisor: dr Anna Nowakowska, Advisor: Aleksandra Borek-Dorosz).

Weronika is a Master's Student at the Medical Chemistry (the Faculty of Chemistry, JU). As a part of the Team-Net Project, she is working on her master's thesis entitled "Analysis of phenotype and biochemical status of acute lymphoblastic leukemia cells sensitive and resistant to tyrosine kinase inhibitors" (Supervisor:dr Katarzyna Majzner, Advisor: Patrycja Dawiec).

Worked with Us

Ewelina received her Master's degree in chemistry in 2018 at the Faculty of Chemistry at Jagiellonian University. She is currently in the process of finalizing her Ph.D., which is being carried out at the Faculty of Chemistry UJ under the supervision of Prof. Małgorzata Brindell. The subject of her doctoral dissertation concerned the biological characterization of novel optical sensors for imaging hypoxia in cancer cells and the study of the effect of hypoxia on the anticancer efficacy of polypyridyl Ru(II) complexes. In 2023, Ewelina joined to the Team-Net project awarded by the Foundation for Polish Science entitled „Label-free and rapid optical imaging, detection and sorting of leukemia cells”.

Maja was a Master's Student at the Medical Chemistry (the Faculty of Chemistry, JU). She is focused on studies of cell-drug interactions on the example of leukemic cells. Her master's thesis was entitled "Study of the effect of JAK-STAT signaling pathway inhibition on leukemic cell metabolism using Raman spectroscopy" (Supervisor: dr Katarzyna Majzner, Advisor:Adriana Adamczyk). Maja as a fourth-year Student at the Medical Chemistry worked as an Intern in the Raman Imaging Group at the Faculty of Chemistry, JU. As a part of the Team-Net Project, she was working on her bachelor's thesis entitled "Spectroscopic analysis of acute lymphoblastic leukemia with MLL gene rearrangement" (Supervisor: prof. dr hab. Małgorzata Barańska).

Wiktoria was a Master's Student at the Chemistry (the Faculty of Chemistry, JU). As a part of the Team-Net Project, she was working on her master's thesis entitled "Study of the phenotype of transduced cells of cell lines with FLT3 gene mutation by Raman spectroscopy" (Supervisor: dr Sylwia Orzechowska, Advisor: dr Aleksandra Borek-Dorosz). Wiktoria's work in the project began with an internship in July 2022 and now she is continuing her work as part of her master's thesis.

Joanna was a Master's Student at the Environmental Protection (the Faculty of Chemistry, JU). She is focused on studies aimed at defining spectroscopic markers of different mutations in leukemic cells. As a part of the Team-Net Project, she is working on her master's thesis entitled "Raman imaging in the analysis of ZNF384 mutations in clinical samples of acute lymphoblastic leukemia" (Supervisor: dr Aleksandra Borek-Dorosz, Advisor: Patrycja Leszczenko).
