Team-Net: Research Topics

The aim of the project entitled „Label-free and rapid optical imaging, detection and sorting of leukemia cells” (in polish "Platforma do szybkiego, bezznacznikowego obrazowania, identyfikacji i sortowania podtypów komórek białaczkowych"; POIR.04.04.00-00-16ED/18-01 is to construct a novel diagnostic device based on Stimulated Raman Spectroscopy (SRS). The device will enable rapid identification and sorting of cells depending on the subtype of leukemia the patient is suffering from. The project is carried out within a consortium established for cooperation, whose leader is the University of Warsaw, and one of the members, the Jagiellonian University and the Raman Imaging Group. The task of the Raman Imaging Group is to identify biochemical differences that allow distinguishing distinct types and subtypes of leukemia using spectra obtained with Raman imaging.

Within the project, Raman Imaging Group is focused on accomplishing five main goals:

1) Optimization of sample preparation and Raman measurements
2) Identification of differences between normal leukocytes and activated T cells
3) Identification of spectroscopic markers characteristic for leukemia subtypes (clinical samples & cell lines)
4) Supporting the identification of blood cells (Raman reporters)
5) Studies of cell-drug interactions

Team Net logos

The „ Label-free and rapid optical imaging, detection and sorting of leukemia cells” project is carried out within the Team-Net programme of the Foundation for Polish Science (in polish Fundacja na Rzecz Nauki Polskiej) co-financed by the European Union under the European Regional Development Fund.

The total amount of the grant is 26 million PLN for the consortium of six teams, including 4.6 million PLN for the ZOR; ZOR received additional funding (1 million PLN)  for a task related to the use of Raman reporters in the diagnosis of leukemia (50 thousand PLN).
