Karolina, Agnieszka, and Łukasz were awarded with Student Grant!

The Organizing Committee of the 28th International Conference on Raman Spectroscopy

(ICORS 2024) announced the results of the Student Grant competition. The aim of the 

contest was to support scientific excellence and promote equal opportunities among

students. We are pleased to announce that Karolina, Agnieszka, and Łukasz obtained

the funding and will attend the ICORS 2024 conference in Rome.

Patrycja D, Agnieszka, and Patrycja L received the Visibility & Mobility Module (ID.UJ) funding!

We are pleased to announce that in the latest edition of the Visibility & Mobility Module, a competition of the Strategic Program Excellence Initiative at Jagiellonian University (ID.UJ), our PhD students Patrycja D, Agnieszka, and Patrycja L got financial support for active participation in a prestigious international conference. Patrycja D and Patrycja L will attend 13th International Conference on Clinical Spectroscopy SPEC 2024 (2-6 June 2024, Ioannina, Greece), and Agnieszka will attend 34th International Symposium on Chirality (26-29 August 2024, Kyoto, Japan).

Agnieszka received the Skills Development & Engagement Module (ID.UJ) funding!

We are pleased to announce that in the latest edition of the Skills Development & Engagement Module, a competition of the Strategic Program Excellence Initiative at Jagiellonian University (ID.UJ), supporting individual competence development, Agnieszka got a scholarship for a 2-week research internship under the supervision of Prof. Petr Bouř at the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry, Czech Academy of Science in Prague, Czech Republic. Malgosia visited several cities in China and gave lectures there

On March 24-30, 2024, Małgosia gave 4 invited lectures in Beijing, Hangzhou and Shanghai,

also as part of the 3rd NCRBA conference. She presented data on sensitive,

rapid and selective Raman

imaging of biological samples, also using Tandem RAman Microscopy (TRAM), a unique

system combining RRS,

SRS and CARS, developed in our group and patent pending.

 

 

 

 

Malgosia, an Honorary Ambassador of Polish Congresses

On March 21, 2024, Małgosia was honored with the title of Honorary Ambassador of Polish

Congresses. The ceremony took place in the atmospheric location of the historic rolling mill

in Katowice.

 


 

Ada’s Doctoral Promotion

On April 4, 2024, Ada was promoted to Doctor of Philosophy. The ceremony took place in the

Collegium Novum of the Jagiellonian University. The doctoral oath was taken from

Ada in Latin. Ex decreto ordinis mei SCIENTIARUM CHIMICARUM doctorem creo, creatam

renuntio, omniaque doctoris iura ac privilegia in te confero, in eiusque rei fidem hoc diploma,

Universitatis sigillo insignitum, tibi in manus trado!

 

 

 

 

 

Ewa’s visit in Prague at Charles University and Academy of Science

In March, Ewa gave 2 invited lectures in Prague, Czech Republic in the group of Dr. Václav Profant (Institute of Physics of Charles University) and Prof. Peter Bouř (Academy of Sciences, Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry). She presented data on chiral, metal-containing systems studied by resonance and non-resonance Raman optical activity spectroscopy. Also, Ewa spent 3 weeks in the group of Prof. Bouř where she performed vibrational circular dichroism measurements of amphotericin B species and Raman optical activity spectra in an extended spectral range of several vitamin B12 analogs. 

       Ania's training at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena

From the 11th to 15th of March, Ania A completed 1-week-training at the Institute of Physical Chemistry Institute of Friedrich Schiller University Jena (Germany) under the supervision of PD Dr. Christoph Krafft and Dr. Samir El-Mashtoly. The main goal of the mobility was to receive advanced training in recording simultaneous spectral data with the use of an optical photothermal microscope (O-PTIR) for in vitro studies. The internships were founded by the Erasmus+ scholarship for employees at the Jagiellonian University (Erasmus+ KA 131-HED).

      Ania's training in the Photonic Data Science group, Friedrich Schiller University Jena

From the 26th February to 1st of March, Ania N completed a 1-week-training in the Photonic Data Science group, the Institute of Physical Chemistry and the Abbe Center of Photonics, Friedrich Schiller University Jena (Germany) under the supervision of Prof. Thomas Bocklitz. The main focus of the mobility was on the analysis of photonics data, including creating a spectroscopic data analysis pipeline, and applying machine learning methods in the inspection of spectroscopic data. The internship was founded by the Erasmus+ scholarship for employees at the Jagiellonian University (Erasmus+ KA 131-HED).

On the occasion of Polish Science Day, a gala ceremony was held in the Warsaw University of Technology auditorium, during which Science Minister Dariusz Wieczorek presented awards to outstanding representatives of the scientific and academic community. The laureates were honored for their significant achievements in scientific, teaching, implementation, and organizational activities, and their lifetime achievements. The Minister of Science granted 59 awards, including 50 individual and 9 team awards.

We are pleased to announce that the award for significant achievements in the field of scientific activity was given to Prof. Małgorzata Barańska and the Raman Imaging Group!

Defence of Ada's dissertation

Our doctoral student Ada's thesis defence took place on the 20th of February 2024. The thesis, prepared under the supervision of Małgosia and Kasia, was entitled "Spectroscopic characteristics of in vitro models of selected leukemia subtypes and evaluation of their interaction with exogenous substances”.

Preludium Bis 5 for Kamilla!

We are pleased to announce that Prof. Kamilla Małek is among the 43 winners of the latest Preludium Bis 5 competition financed by the National Science Centre (NCN) and dedicated to innovative doctoral theses. Kamilla and her Ph.D. student will work on “Plasmon-enabled chemistry through hybrid materials and light conversion in surface-enhanced spectroscopy”.

Małgosia is a member of the Scientific Committee of ECSBM and ICMS

Malgosia was invited to join a Scientific Committee of the 20th European Conference on Spectroscopy of Biological Molecules, (ECSBM), to be held in Lodz, 1-5.09.2024. Moreover, she is the Programm Chair of this conference. She was also invited to join the International Scientific Committee of the XVIIth International Conference on Molecular Spectroscopy, to be held in Wojanow, 22-25.09.2024.

 

 

Ola's training at the Politecnico di Milano

From the 15th to the 19th of January, Ola BD completed 1 week of training at Politecnico

di Milano (Italy) under thesupervision of Prof. Dario Poli. The aim of the training

was to expand knowledge of spectroscopic dataanalysis. The internships were founded

by the Erasmus+ scholarship for employees at the Jagiellonian University

Visit of Professor Mariusz Gagoś and Professor Marta Arczewska

From the 15th to the 17th of January, our lab was visited by Prof. Mariusz Gagoś and Prof. Marta Arczewska from

Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (Lublin, Poland). During their stay, Prof. Gagoś presented the lecture entitled

“Amfoterycyna B - stary lek, nowe idee” within our Faculty Seminar Lecture Series. Moreover, Ewa and Kasia P.

under their supervision conducted ECD experiments as well. The obtained results are part of the joint publication

and the beginning of further scientific collaboration.

We are pleased to announce that Adriana and Ewa received the funding in the latest edition of the Bekker NAWA 2023 competition! Adriana’s project will be focused on “Coherent Raman microscopy to study the mechanism of erythroid drug-induced cell differentiation in the in vitro model of chronic myeloid leukemia” under the supervision of Prof. Duncan Graham (University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland). In turn, Ewa will conduct research entitled “Understanding and rational design of chiral luminescent heterometallic molecular systems based on spectroscopic and computational approach” in a group of Prof. Petr Bouř (Institute of
Organic Chemistry and 
Biochemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Prague, Czech                                                                                                                                                                                                         Republic).

NAWA funding for Polish-French collaborative research to Grzegorz!

The Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange announced the recruitment results for joint research projects between the Republic of Poland and the French Republic. One of the projects that received funding in this edition is the project entitled: "Circularly polarized luminescence and other chiroptical methods towards detection of protein alterations", coordinated on the Polish side by Grzegorz Zając! The project will be carried out in cooperation with the Materials and Photonic Nanostructures Research team from the Institut Lumière Matière, University of Lyon 1, coordinated by Prof. Stéphan Guy.

          Fundusze NAWA na wspólne badania polsko-francuskie dla Kasi Majzner!

Narodowa Agencja Wymiany Akademickiej ogłosiła wyniki rekrutacji do wspólnych projektów badawczych pomiędzy Rzeczpospolitą Polską a Republiką Francuską. Jednym z projektów, który otrzymał dofinansowanie w tej edycji konkursu, jest projekt pt.: „Obrazowanie spektroskopią ramanowską pojedynczych komórek białaczkowych stymulowanych lekami pod kątem oceny ich fenotypu i stanu biochemicznego”, koordynowany ze strony polskiej przez Kasię Majzner! Projekt będzie realizowany we współpracy z zespołem badawczym BioSpectroscopie Translationnelle (BioSpecT) z Université de Reims w Szampanii-Ardenach, koordynowanym przez 
prof. Oliviera Piota.

Preludium 22 dla Łukasza!

CLIRPath-AI is a  network, which brings together researchers in the fields of Spectral Pathology, Digital Pathology and Artificial Intelligence, to work together to discover innovative solutions to diagnostic problems.

Ania visited the group of prof. Wei Min - Columbia University, New York, USA

Between October 13th and 30th, 2023, Anna did her internship in the group of. Prof. Wei Min at the Department of Chemistry, Columbia University in the City of New York (New York, USA). The research was conducted as part of the Team-Net project. You can read more about Professor Wei Min Group and his research.

Scientific Committee elections in the Polish Adademy of Science

Malgosia was elected to the Polish Adademy of Science scientific committees of Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry for the 2024-2027 term. The committees are the only national representation of scientific microenvironments elected in democratic elected in Poland. Congratulation!

Erasmus+ sholarships for Ania A, Ania N and Ola. Congratulations!

Ania A, Ania N and Ola B-D received Erasmus+ sholarhips for employees at the Jagiellonian University (Erasmus+ KA 131-HED). The purpose of the training trip is to participate in training to improve qualifications related to the nature of work performed at the home university. Our Ladies are going for one week to: Politecnico di Milano, Italy - Ola and Friedrich Schiller University Jena, Germany - Ania A and Ania N.

Malgosia on the list of top scientists in the world published in 2023

Małgosia once again was included on list of the most influential scientists. She's among the 72 most frequently cited members of Jagiellonian University in 2022. The ranking was prepared by the University of Stanford, Elsevier publishing house and SciTech Strategies company. It assesses the overall impact of scientists based on bibliometrics.

Recently Malgosia has been nominated by her students for a contest for a best academic teacher in Kraków organized by "Gazeta Krakowska" and "Dziennik Polski"! Voting starts on Tuesday, October 24, we encourage everyone to leave their vote!

Sylwia got an internship from NAWA 2023

Recently Sylwia received funding for a month-length research scholarship at University of Belgrade from Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange! The scholarship started this month, during her stay she will be studying various drugs used in oncology.

Ania received funding from Young Labs 3 program

Recently our post-doc Ania received funding from Young Labs 3 call in the Anthropocene PRA under the strategic programme Excellence Initiative at the Jagiellonian University! The tile of her project is "Tracking fatty acids metabolism of leukemic cells using Raman spectroscopy".

Małgosia is a chair of the workshop “Women in Photonics“, Jena, Germany, 26-30 November, 2023

We are pleased to informed that Małgosia was selected to chair the workshop “Women in Photonics“! The workshop will be held at Leibniz Institute of Photonic Technology (Leibniz IPHT) in Jena from 26 to 30 November 2023

The workshop “Women in Photonics“ aims at connecting excellent female scientists at the beginning of their ­career with experts in photonics holding leading positions at research institutions and companies. The focus of the workshop will be on:

  •     Optical health technologies – diagnosis, monitoring, therapy
  •     biomedical microscopy, bio-analytical methods, medical chip systems
  •     Biophotonics such as vibrational spectroscopy, fluorescence, OCT, PAT, etc.

The workshop addresses female postdocs and PhD students working in these research areas, who want to ­present their own work and build up new networks. Participants will have the ­opportunity to exchange with experienced scientists from academia and industry and ­jointly develop strategies for a successful ­professional career.

First internship from NAWA 2023

Zdjęcie Oli, Krzysztofa i AniFrom 13th to 26th May 2023 Ania P. and Ola B-D completed a 2-week internship at Leibniz Institute of Photonic Technology Jena (Leibniz-IPHT), Jena, Germany, in Prof. Jurgen Popp group, the partner from NAWA 2023 project. The aim of the internship was to expand their knowledge about nonlinear techniques: coherent anti-stokes Raman scattering (CARS) and fluorescence-lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM). During their stay, they managed to learn about those techniques from the practical side, making cell measurements, which are part of the OPUS15 project's research.

From 24th to 26th Professor Jurgen Popp's group was also visited by Krzysztof, who had the opportunity to see their laboratories and discuss the technical aspects of the equipment used by the team.

The internship was financed by the Opus15 Project (UMO-2018/29/B/ST4/00335 to MB) and NAWA (Bilateral exchange program between Poland and Germany 2023 to MB).

Ada's internship at the University of Valencia

From 24th of February to 10th of March 2023 Ada completed 2 weeks internships at University of Valencia (Spain) under supervision of dr David Perez-Guaita. The aim of the internship was to expand knowledge on multivariate data analysis. The internships were founded by Excellence Initiative at the Jagiellonian University ("ID.UJ") VISIBILITY & MOBILITY MODULE

Guest internship by Dr Monika Kopeć from Lodz University of Technology

On February 1-27, our team had the pleasure of hosting Dr Monika Kopeć, a member of Prof. dr hab. Halina Abramczyk group from the Lodz University of Technology. During the internship, Dr. Monika carried out Raman imaging of brain cancer cell cultures incubated with an oncological drug administered in various concentrations. In addition, Dr Monika had the opportunity to participate in measurements using various research techniques and in an analysis of the results with the use of different analytical methods. Both for Dr Monika and for us, it was a very fruitful time during which we had the chance to exchange experiences and knowledge.

Małgorzata is a laureate of the NCN Maestro competition!

The National Science Center has announced the ranking lists of projects qualified for funding under the next editions of the MAESTRO and SONATA BIS calls. Among the winners were also researchers from the Jagiellonian University.

Konkurs Maestro skierowany jest do doświadczonych naukowców. Oferuje dofinansowanie projektów badawczych mających na celu prowadzenie badań pionierskich, w tym badań interdyscyplinarnych, ważnych dla rozwoju nauki, wykraczających poza aktualny stan wiedzy i mogących skutkować odkryciami naukowymi.

W 14. edycji konkursu Maestro złożono 72 wnioski, a pięciu zwycięzców otrzymało stypendia. Miło nam poinformować, że wśród nich znalazła się profesor Małgorzata Barańska z ZOR-Zespół Obrazowania Ramanowskiego, której projekt badawczy pt. „RamanSense: Metabolomika oparta na wzmocnionej stymulowanej mikroskopii Ramana” otrzyma dofinansowanie w wysokości 4 989 800 zł.
